Branding has so many constituent parts…
We love the cerebral challenge of brand strategy, positioning, experience, tone of voice etc.
But we also love the challenge of creating the humble brand mark, which can communicate so much…
We’ve all read and loved ‘No Logo’, equally we’ve also read ‘Yes Logo’ which champions brand icons.
Over the years, as Neon and in former lives, we’ve created or carefully rejuvenated all manner of big ol’ iconic brand marks, made the magic for medium and small brands.
Big or small, each brief comes with its own set of unique challenges.
The fuel for creating a relevant and memorable brand mark is taking on board every aspect of a brief and equities required – and reflecting on the audience.
But it’s the fear and trepidation that provides the creative spark to ignite the fuel you’ve fed your mind, of wanting to do great work that stands the test of time.
If you are trying to make a lasting impression, then your thinking has to last.
And that is what we feel hopefully sorts the thinkers from the colourists.
Brand marks can be wonderfully crafted icons, can talk to you, suggest trust and gravitas, or be playful.
They can be overt in one single message, or deliver multiple messages.
They should evoke or provoke a feeling.
They can be award winningly clever, be disarmingly simple or just elegantly crafted and cool.
They should be an idea that’s a springboard to more than ‘just a logo’.
You should roll with no defined style, but ideas and craft never go out of fashion…
The more diverse, different and without a house style they are, the better we’ve hopefully done our job.
