My Father keeps the PM waiting
Written by one of Neon’s oldest friends and closest collaborators, My Father keeps the PM waiting is a book like none you’ve ever read.
Based on the real-life story of how Lindsay Camp’s father helped Harold Wilson snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in the 1970 general election, it’s a heady, unpigeonholeable blend of fact and fiction; a political thriller that’s also a tender love story, a mixed-up family memoir and a meditation on the subject of fatherhood. Lindsay assures us it’s a novel, and we’re taking his word for it.
In any case, it’s a cracking read; an absolute page-turner, and laugh-out-loud funny. So Lindsay’s brief to us for online publication was simple: make it look lovely, but, above all, make sure it’s easy to navigate and a pleasure to read.

For the main text, we kept the typography elegantly classic and easy on the reader’s eye. And, to add a little charm, we commissioned the brilliant Simon Henshaw to produce a set of black-and-white illustrations to introduce each of the novel’s chapters.
By far Neon’s biggest creative contribution, though, was the lightbulb moment when it came to us that the main imagery should be AI-generated, using Midjourney – a perfect visual complement to the book’s entertaining but sometimes unsettling melding of fact and fiction.

Kind words…
“I’ve worked with Dana on countless projects for clients over the last 20 years, so it was no surprise to discover that working with Dana on a project, as a client, is an equally delightful experience. I couldn’t be happier with the way My Father keeps the PM waiting works online, and the idea for the AI imagery was the kind of flash of creative genius I’ve come to expect from Dana, over the years.””
