Neon were approached by award winning garden builders Walmsley Shaw, to help them to become top of mind for commissions from respected and renown garden designers, architects and developers. The subsequent new brand identity and website took inspiration from owner Martin Shaw’s belief that ‘you build with nature, not against it’. With copy from award winning writer Lindsay Camp, the new website was designed to be more ‘tell’ rather than ‘sell’ with the goal of not only showcasing Walmsley Shaw’s building and landscaping skills, but also their considerable communication, logistic and planning abilities. By Dana Robertson Creative Director and Founder of Neon. Natalia Schroder is an up and coming jewellery designer, whose work has appeared in Vogue and other heavyweight fashion publications. Natalia approached Neon on recommendation to create her new brand identity that would make a elegant impact in the luxury goods market. We elegantly combined Natalia’s initials into a unique monogram, designed to work at a very small sizes, so that it could be used as her ‘maker’s mark’ alongside the hallmarks stamped into her jewellery. The detailing from the monogram carried through onto the refined but strong logotype typography. The colour palette, we used a simple yet sophisticated black and white, with a graphic stripe detail, taken from the feel of the monogram, to be used in packaging, ribbons, tissue wraps and end-paper detailing. Nothing we enjoy more than a start-up with a really fresh new business idea. And this one really seemed to have lot of mileage: the team behind it were planning to launch a “companion driver” service - i.e. just call for a smart liveried car, driven by a friendly fully vetted individual, who will be happy to accompany you and help as necessary, wherever you want to go. The main target audience for the service was affluent older people, who might appreciate being driven to, say, a doctor’s appointment or on a shopping trip, by someone entirely trustworthy and very personable. But the client team also believed that, over time, many other potential users would discover the benefits of the service. First, we needed a name for the new brand. And we set off in search of something that would give the service a dependable and established air. After exploring a good few alternatives, we came up with Butler & Parker: a little bit Downton, a little bit Thunderbirds - and a whole lot upscale and reassuring. From the name, emerged the rather elegant logo graphic: two gloves - a butler’s glove and a chauffeur’s - forming a pair of wings intended to signify the freedom enjoyed by users of the service. And then we went to work on the identity, mostly using understated black and white, to give a discreetly smart but unshowy feel to communications and also the cars themselves, but chucking in a little splash of pink, to keep things interesting. As well as all the stuff you might expect us to have done, like applying the identity to the website and stationery, we also helped the client prepare presentations articulating the potential of the new brand to banks and other potential investors. And, gratifyingly, the feedback we received suggested that the strength and confidence of our work played an important part in helping the Butler & Parker, Companion Drivers secure the funding it was looking for… Idea, art direction and design by Neon Design & Branding Consultancy www.neon-creative.com

We were briefed by a new start-up venture offering high end educational yoga classes for mothers and babies, and mothers-to-be. They asked us to name the new company and create a brand identity and visual language that would cut through the blandly generic mother-and-baby photography currently saturating the market. They wanted to communicate that this wasn’t “just another yoga class”, but an offering with childbirth education at its heart – through classes designed to support a mother, her baby and her partner, through pregnancy and beyond into labour, birth and postnatal recovery. But, at the same time, the company founders were keen to convey that yoga and learning can and should be fun. Amanda Patton garden designs have been recognized through many awards (Chelsea Flower Show Gold, RHS Gold) and she is a regular guest broadcaster on BBC radio. Amanda approached Neon (on recommendation) to create a new brand identity for her publications, stationery and portfolio — after realising that she needed a brand identity that reflected some of the themes and values she held as a designer of gardens. Amanda believed that “good design is not just about getting the proportions right, it’s also about getting the communication right, with a common theme of quality and craftsmanship.
